The town of Zrenjanin lies at longitude 20°24’ east and latitude 45°23’ north, in the middle of Serbian part of Banat, on the coasts of the river Begej surrounded by canals of hydrosystem network Danube-Tisa-Danube. By the area that is covering Municipality of Zrenjanin is currently bigger than 24 states that are members of United Nations. Today Zrenjanin Municipality, covering 1,326 km2, is the largest municipality in AP of Vojvodina by size, and by the population which is more than 140,000 inhabitants, it is the third one. The biggest part of the population (about 85,000) lives in the town itself, and the rest in surrounding villages. The Municipality of Zrenjanin is a multinational community including 23 different nations and nationalities.
The land on the territory of the Municipality is plain so that consequently its structure of economy and industry brings Zrenjanin into the list of bigger agro-industrial centres The most developed part of the economy is industry, employing about 16,750 employees, what is more than one third of the total number of inhabitants capable to work.
A short distance from big industrial centres in four states and good roads, as well as the promotion of closer relations within the region DKTM (Danube, Krish, Tisa, Morish) which covers Vojvodina and districts in both Southern Hungary and Eastern Romania as well as a project of establishing regional cooperation of Vojvodina, Tuzla area in Bosnia and Hercegovina and Osijek District in Croatia., makes Zrenjanin an interesting location for the companies striving for the market in more than one country. Zrenjanin area is the part of the plain which is largely intersected by canals for irrigation systems with an access available to bigger rivers, such as the Danube and the Tisa, and the Begej runs through the town itself. The Danube in the canal system Rein-Mein it the essential navigable route in Europe. Zrenjanin has its own airport, the biggest C class airport on the Balkan, including asphalt runway and necessary infrastructure (storehouses, plane barns, the Customs offices) suitable for smaller pasanger, agricultural and cargo planes. The location it is situated on, offers an option of extanded reconstructing to make it suitable for bigger planes too
Agriculture
Municipality of Zrenjanin has all resources for high volume, stable and profitable agricultural manufacturing. With highly developed food industry and high quality products, agriculture is one of the engines and basis for the future growth and development of the municipality.
Plant growing - Municipality of Zrenjanin is located in the central part of Banat region and according to the statistical data, encompasses 78.303 hectares of plough lands. In the municipality there are manufacturing resources for refining sugar- beet, oil, corn, butcher houses, dairy products, beer and non-alcoholic beverages, seeds, cattle feed and tobacco.
Livestock production - Livestock production in the municipality of Zrenjanin consists of cattle, pork, sheep and poultry production.
Fishery - Manufacturing of carp and other fish species for consumption takes place at Ecka fish-pond.
Industry
Zrenjanin is industrial center of the region with many development possibilities.
Food industry - Food industry is the most significant branch of the industry in the municipality.
Metal industry - Metal industry in the municipality of Zrenjanin is one of the oldest branches and certain factories are the oldest in the country in their respective field.
Textile and leather industry - Second in size after agricultural, this industry has significant place in the economy of municipality of Zrenjanin. Companies belonging to this field of industry have existed for longer then a century.
Chemical industry - Chemical industry is represented by FSK, Begej-plast, Jugoremedija, Delhem and Luksol.
Oil and natural gas production - Oil and natural gas are produced in the fields located in the municipality.
Construction - Main construction companies in our municipalities are GIK, Zangrap, Aranžer, Centar, brick and other building material production, isolation materials in building, and other public and privately owned companies.

Waste disposal - city dump or regional - there is no regional dump yet, but there is a town disposal station which was reconstruceted in 2002 including 2 compartments for controlled waste disposal, of 200,00 m3 capacity; there are also 14 smaller, unregulated dumps (approximate size 100x 50 m).
Waste recycling - there is plastic (PET) sparation or any other recycling.

Most of the banks have their offices located in the main street in the center of the city. Beside banks there are also insurance and leasing companies in Zrenjanin.
Education
Education has a long tradition as well. First schools were founded in 18. century in three languages: Serbian, German and Hungarian. Presently there are 10 primary and 8 secondary schools, and 22 primary schools in surrounding villages. The Grammar School has a 100 year tradition. Yet there are other schools almost as old as this one – Secondary School of Economy (former Academy of Commerce), which was founded in 1895.
Technical College was founded in 1962 with educational profiles needed in the region – in mechanical, food and textile industry. There is a Faculty of Technology ‘Mihajlo Pupin’ with two departments – Technical Pedagogy and Technical Engineering. It offers the following expert profiles:
information technology engineers,
information technology teachers,
technical systems operating engineers, technical system developing engineers, quality managing engineers and technical system operating engineers in the field of medicine.
There are about 12.000 pupils in elementary schools, 7.000 in secondary schools, 1.400 college students, and 2.000 students at the Faculty of Technology ‘Mihajlo Pupin’
